October 13, 2020
The Rotary golf league 2020 season has come to an end with the playing of the beautiful Persimmon Woods Golf Club. My friend, Joe Valenti, was our host for the 4th consecutive year at the club located near Highway 40 and Highway 94 in St. Charles County. We had 22 golfers on one of the last nice weather days of the year. With the high near 85 in the middle of October we were pushing our luck, but thankfully won the weather battle.
A little history on our venue this day:
Persimmon Woods Golf Club features 18 holes routed over 192 rolling acres located just 2 miles west of the Missouri River. It is one of St. Louis’ last remaining “Pure Golf Experiences” This private club was designed by Keith Foster and opened for business in 1998. Native grasses, wild flowers and mature trees frame perfectly manicured zoysia fairways with ponds and creeks winding their way through many of the holes. It is truly one of the most manicured and beautiful courses in the St. Louis area.

Most stayed for an hour or so of fellowship after golf on the large deck until about 10 minutes after the last group finished. It allowed plenty of room for social distancing during these times and many stories about the round of golf. We then went inside for dinner and awards.
Dinner comprised of a wedge salad with plenty of bacon, cheese and dressing. The entrée was a nice piece of Halibut over angel hair pasta with grilled Brussel sprouts. Of course, we had dessert which was comprised of cheesecake with mixed berries. The awards followed and golf balls distributed to those shown above. Since this was the last outings, we also announce the winners of the flights for the year.
Congratulations are in order to the following Winners of the 2020 Rotary Golf League Season:
Championship Flight: Blake Critzas
A Flight: Ken Schuman
B Flight: Rick Tinucci
Most Improved Golfer: Gary Jones
Each will have their name engraved on the appropriate trophy which will be presented at one of the Rotary Meetings at a later date to be determined.
Our golf league really has great fellowship and played on some of the nicest golf courses in the St. Louis area. As one of the Rotarians said that night – this golf league is one of the best bargains out there. Try to make one or more of the outings when we start up in April 2021.
Hope to see you then,
Kent Steinbrueck
