BE PROUD TO BE A ROTARIAN

ESPECIALLY A ROTARIAN IN THE ROTARY CLUB OF ST. LOUIS

This was the written just prior to our Rotary International President starting his term. I believe it is always good to review our inspirations and see if they withstand time. I think it has.

Rotary International President-Elect Holger Knaack has announced Rotary’s theme for 2020-2021.  Speaking at the International Assembly in San Diego, he revealed the theme in a speech to 529 District Governors-Elect who will lead Rotary’s 1.2 million members worldwide.  Rotary isn’t just a club for people to join, but rather “an invitation to endless opportunities,” said Knaack, who becomes president on 1 July 2020. He emphasized that Rotary creates pathways for members to improve their lives and the lives of those they help through service projects.

Being a Rotarian means serving your community, networking, making friends, and building international relationships. Through Rotary, you have the opportunity to expand your leadership skills and achieve your goals. Get involved in a committee, sit with someone different every week, when ask to serve on as a Board position treat it as a special invitation to not only serve but also enlighten yourself. You will find you will gain much more personally than you can only dream of.

Larry Campbell was the program last Thursday. I know we have had a number of authors during this last year, during the COVID 19 time. Larry however gave us a interesting look at his venture of the Missouri River. Starting from it’s origin following the river all the way to its merger into the Mississippi. He was able to wind pictures and maps into his venture through the Midwest from his trip. Truly an amazing river right in our backyard.

This Thursday we welcome Rabbi Yonason Goldson as our program. Rabbi Yonason Goldson is director of Ethical Imperatives, LLC. He is an ethics speaker, strategic storyteller, TEDx presenter, and author. He is also a recovered hitchhiker and circumnavigator, former newspaper columnist, and retired high school teacher in St. Louis. In his leadership company, Ethical Imperatives, LLC, he work with leaders to create a culture of ethics that builds trust, sparks initiative, and inspires enthusiasm. This is a topic we all can use whether in our work lives or personal lives.

The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do

1.  Is it the truth?

2.  Is it fair to all concerned?

3.  Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

4.  Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

From the Desk of Linda Puchbauer, District 6060 Rotary Foundation Chair

We are entering our fourth quarter for this Rotary year.  My how time flies!  As of March 1, 2021 our Annual Giving by Rotarians to the Rotary Foundation is $132,000.  The goal is $300,000 by June 30.  There are still Clubs that do not have an Annual Fund Goal for 2020-21.  Look deep in your hearts to see what you can do to help the Rotary Foundation carry out its mission of “Doing Good in the World” This also helps our local communities funding the CAP Grants and local projects.

As we come out of the COVID 19 this year, let’s try to work adding to our membership. If everyone just asks one close friend or business associate, we will be able to grow in 2021.

Pass on information about our club and about Rotary to your friends, send the Pepperbox to them, Like and Share on Social Media. We really do have a great club, let’s not be afraid to tell the WORLD.
