A quote of inspiration

“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence.”

Each week I will highlight something about Rotary that all Rotarians should know or be aware of.

WORLD UNDERSTANDING MONTH
February is very special in the Rotary calendar since it is designated World Understanding Month. The month also includes the anniversary of the first meeting of Rotary held on February 23, 1905, now designated World Understanding and Peace Day.
In designating World Understanding Month, the Rotary International board asks all Rotary clubs to plan programs for their weekly meeting and undertake special activities to emphasize “understanding and goodwill as essential for world peace.”
To observe this designated month, many clubs arrange international speakers, invite youth exchange students and international scholars from schools and universities to club meetings, plan programs featuring former Group Study Exchange team members, arrange discussions on international issues, present entertainment with an international cultural or artistic them and schedule other programs with an international emphasis.
Many clubs take the opportunity to launch an international community service activity or make contact with a Rotary club in another country is a good month to initiate a Rotary Fellowship Exchange, a 3-H project or encourage support for PolioPlus and other Rotary Foundation programs. World Understanding Month is a chance for every club to pause, plan and promote the Fourth Avenue of Service-Rotary’s continued quest for goodwill, peace and understanding among people of the world.  Actually, every month we should quest for goodwill, peace and understanding, not just February.

Have you opened your Rotary Magazine yet this month? As I outlined last week, this is the first issue with the change of name from The Rotarian to Rotary. The name recognizes the breadth of the organization’s membership in addition to supporting the organization’s goal of growing awareness of Rotary’s global brand.

MAKES ME PROUD TO BE A ROTARIAN IN THE ROTARY CLUB OF ST. LOUIS

The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do

  1. Is it the truth?
  2. Is it fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

We had quite a treat for those that attended the meeting this last Thursday. It was our “Changing of the Guard” program. This program is usually held the first meeting of July but due to health circumstance the program was moved to the first meeting of September. Believe me the delay did not take away from the “roasting” of Past President Bob Garagiola. With Bob and his wife Teddy in attendance the Club gave him a superlative send off. Mark Rubinelli was outstanding handling the Master of Ceremony position as he was masterful in not only roasting Bob but also handling the introduction of Past Presidents of Club 11. It was great to see Bob and Teddy at the meeting. They walked out of the meeting with a number of items including the traditional gavel plaque (from the Club), a professional looking photo book with many pictures from his Rotary year (from the Board) and of course a box of sticky buns (from Mark and Joan).  Bravo!!!

This week’s program will be given by Brooks Goedeker. Brooks will give us an outline of the redevelopment going on in the City of St. Louis near Saint Louis University. This should be enlightening.

If you missed last weeks meeting or any meeting you can watch the recording of the zoom presentation by clicking on the link in the Pepperbox.

We are continuing to work to make the zoom presentations better every week. Please let Joan know if you have and suggestions and she will pass them on to the MAC who is handling the production of the video.

ZOOM BROADCAST WILL CONTINUE FOR AT LEAST UNTIL THE END OF SEPTEMBER FOR THOSE THAT CANNOT MAKE THE MEETINGS IN PERSON.

Remember to complete the new pre-meeting online registration starting with this meeting that Joan will send out. This pertains to both those attending live and virtually. Although this is not mandatory (yet) please respond to the email to give us a good idea of attendance. It worked very well last week.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO WORK AT BEING HEALTHY DURING THESE TRYING TIMES

“Call a Rotarian” – Past President Bob Garagiola kicked off this program on April 7th 2020. Let’s see if we can keep this going in support of Bob. I think this is a good gesture and will help keep us connected. And you will feel good just to make a “personal” connection. I know I have and if you do also, you’ll be amazed at the results.

Finally, if you have questions, concerns, or ideas regarding Club 11 please contact either me or our office
