BE PROUD TO BE A ROTARIAN

ESPECIALLY A ROTARIAN IN THE ROTARY CLUB OF ST. LOUIS

As we have consistently done with our Club and our Meetings, we will continue to follow the guidelines set by the City of St. Louis and the Missouri Athletic Club (Our meeting site) while having a safe environment.

We are another week closer to kicking out YEAR 2020 and welcoming in YEAR 2021. Not that the turn of the calendar is anything special in changing the world but I think you will all agree 2020 has been a difficult year. Our society has been turned on it’s head by COVID-19. I am not the smartest guy in the world but it took me until a couple weeks ago to figure out what COVID meant. We hear it on the news, in conversation and by the top medical people in the world. Corona(CO)Virus(VI)Disease(D). Most of you probably already knew this but to me, until a couple weeks ago, AHHH, the bells went off. Of course!!!

This Thursday, December 17th will be our last meeting of 2020. This last meeting will be held LIVE and via ZOOM. We continue this way until any changes by either the CITY or the MAC.

Pass on information about our club and about Rotary to your friends

ROTARY MAGAZINE DECEMBER 2020

In the recent Rotary Magazine dated December 2020 there are a number of great articles on SERVICE ABOVE SELF. Great stuff, make sure to check this month’s magazine.

Check out the article on Page 17.

The article highlights Robert Miller of the Rotary Club of Mountain Foothills in Evergreen, CO. Fascinating article about how Rotary changed his live forever. We should all be looking for things in our lives that can really make a difference.

The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do

1.  Is it the truth?

2.  Is it fair to all concerned?

3.  Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

4.  Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

On December 10th our program was from the St. Louis Sports Commission. Frank Viverito, the President of the Commission was the presenter and was supported by his group which included Marc Schreiber. Both have been at our meeting live many times, each bringing a new refreshing sensation for not only bringing sporting events to St. Louis but also on what true SPORTMANSHIP is made of. They did not disappoint this year. Although the program this year was virtual to a live and zoomed audience, it seemed like we were right in the room with him. The Musial Awards were virtual this year instead of their normal venue of The STIFEL Theatre (not the Peabody) but will once again be broadcast on National Television in January. GREAT STUFF

The 50:50 drawing will start again in January. Good Luck

This coming Thursday, December 17th our meeting will be both live and on zoom. The program will be by Jay Grosman, CEO and Founder of iAuto Agent. They are the Real Estate Agent for Used Cars. Check out their website and the some of the videos that better describe their service. It should be a fascinating prospective on this industry.

NO MEETINGS ON DECEMBER 24TH AND DECEMBER 31ST

Each week I will highlight something about Rotary that all Rotarians should know or be aware of.

WORLD COMMUNITY SERVICE
World Community Service is the Rotary program by which a club or district in one country provides humanitarian assistance to a club in another country. Typically, the aid goes to a developing community where the Rotary project will help raise the standard of living and the quality of life. The ultimate object of World Community Service is to build goodwill and understanding among peoples of the world.
One important way to find a club in some other part of the world which needs help on a worthy project is to use the WCS Projects Exchange, a list of dozens of worthy activities in developing areas. The exchange list is maintained in the RI Secretariat in Evanston and is readily available upon request. It outlines projects, provides estimated costs and gives names of the appropriate contacts.
Clubs which need assistance, or are seeking another club to help with a humanitarian project, such as building a clinic, school, hospital, community water well, library or other beneficial activity, may register their needs. Clubs seeking a desirable World Community Service project may easily review the list of needs registered in the Projects Exchange. Thus, the exchange provides a practical way to link needs with resources.
Every Rotary club is urged to undertake a new World Community Service project each year. The WCS Projects Exchange list is an excellent tool to find a real need, a project description and cooperating club in a developing area. The job then is to “go to work” to complete the project, and at the same time build bridges of friendship and world understanding. The slogan accepted over 70 years ago is just as vital today. It is a very thoughtful challenge, “Every Rotarian an Example to Youth.”

If you missed last week’s meeting or any meeting you can watch the recording of the zoom presentation by clicking on the link in the Pepperbox.

We are continuing to work to make the zoom presentations better every week. Please let Joan know if you have any suggestions and she will pass them on to the MAC who is handling the production of the video.

ZOOM BROADCAST WILL CONTINUE FOR AT LEAST UNTIL THE END OF JANUARY 2021 FOR THOSE THAT CANNOT MAKE THE MEETINGS IN PERSON.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO WORK AT BEING HEALTHY DURING THESE TRYING TIMES AND ALWAYS DO WHAT YOU THINK IS GOOD FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
