A quote of inspiration

Life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent of how I react to it.”

Each week I will highlight something about Rotary that all Rotarians should know or be aware of.

EXCHANGE OF CLUB BANNERS One of the colorful traditions of many Rotary clubs is the exchange of small banners, flags or pennants. Rotarians traveling to distant locations often take banners to exchange at “make up” meetings as a token of friendship. Many clubs use the decorative banners they have received for attractive displays at club meetings and district events. The Rotary International board recognized the growing popularity of the banner exchange back in 1959 and suggested that those clubs which participate in such exchanges give careful thought to the design of their banners in order that they be distinctive and expressive of the community and country of which the club is a part. It is recommended that banners include pictures, slogans or designs which portray the territorial area of the club. The board was also mindful of the financial burden such exchange may impose upon some clubs, especially in popular areas where many visitors make up and request to exchange. In all instances, clubs are cautioned to exercise discretion and moderation in the exchange of banners in order that the financial obligations do not interfere with the basic service activities of the club. Exchanging club banners is a very pleasant custom, especially when a creative and artistic banner tells an interesting story of community pride. The exchange of banners is a significant tradition of Rotary and serves as tangible symbol of our international fellowship. (14)

Have you opened your Rotary Magazine yet this month? As I outlined previously, this is the first issue with the change of name from The Rotarian to Rotary. The name recognizes the breadth of the organization’s membership in addition to supporting the organization’s goal of growing awareness of Rotary’s global brand.

MAKES ME PROUD TO BE A ROTARIAN IN THE ROTARY CLUB OF ST. LOUIS

The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do

1.  Is it the truth?

2.  Is it fair to all concerned?

3.  Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

4.  Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

This week we had David Pokorny and Larry Mago from Fox Sports Midwest as the program. David started off with a sports video that got the audiences attention and got the program off to an exciting start. Larry Mago, Executive Producer of Fox Sports Midwest, Fox Sports Kansas City and Fox Sports Indiana gave us an overview of sport productions and how things have changed during the pandemic. Incredible that they can produce the quality broadcasting during these trying times.

We had about 45 live in attendance and another 15 watching via zoom.

This week’s program will be Dr. Simone Cummings, Dean of the Walker School of Business and Management at Webster University.  Our program committee and namely Dr. Beth Russell was very fortunate to have Dr. Cummings as our speaker this week. Please make sure we have a large attendance for such a prestigious speaker.

If you missed last week’s meeting or any meeting you can watch the recording of the zoom presentation by clicking on the link in the Pepperbox.

We are continuing to work to make the zoom presentations better every week. Please let Joan know if you have and suggestions and she will pass them on to the MAC who is handling the production of the video.

ZOOM BROADCAST WILL CONTINUE FOR AT LEAST UNTIL THE END OF OCTOBER FOR THOSE THAT CANNOT MAKE THE MEETINGS IN PERSON.

Remember to complete the new pre-meeting online registration starting with this meeting that Joan will send out. This pertains to both those attending live and virtually. Although this is not mandatory (yet) please respond to the email to give us a good idea of attendance. It worked very well last week.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO WORK AT BEING HEALTHY DURING THESE TRYING TIMES

“Call a Rotarian”Past President Bob Garagiola kicked off this program on April 7th 2020. Let’s see if we can keep this going in support of Bob. I think this is a good gesture and will help keep us connected. And you will feel good just to make a “personal” connection. I know I have and if you do also, you’ll be amazed at the results.

Finally, if you have questions, concerns, or ideas regarding Club 11 please contact either me or our office
