106th Bowling Season, Week 1 ~ Captain Carl Lane, September 9, 2024

week 1 alleygations - carl lane, 106th Season

ALLEGATIONS September 9, 2024 Week One

Year number 106 kicked off at Olivette Lanes with 29 participating bowlers. Most of the bowlers had not bowled since the conclusion of last year, and it was evident by the 15 whose average declined. On the other hand 10 raised their average and noteworthy among them were: Wade Weistreich +34, Ken Schuman +23, Chad Baker + 21, Joey Papa +23, and Doc Jones +17. The stamina award goes to Doc Jones who played golf and bowled prior to competing tonight. In keeping with our Rotary principles, I will not summarize the shortcomings of the 15 who disgraced themselves.

David Cowell continued his mastery of the lanes with a high score of 206 and a scratch series of 582. Don Klackner managed the second highest score with a 205, and Wade Weistreich followed with a 192. Matt Wilson had a good night with a high of186 and he also won the 50/50 pot.

Team Werner holds the top spot in the standings by virtue of a 22-0 thrashing of Team Lane. One might guess all of the Team Lane bowlers rolled below average (and they would be correct-but look out next week as the handicaps will be adjusted). Team Werner was short one bowler but Don Klackner, Joey Papa, and Vic Difate had no difficulty against a woefully over matched Lane team.

Team Weistreich holds the second spot with 16 points against Team Driver. Their win was a team effort since all four bowlers performed well. On Team Driver only Ken Schuman turned in a noteworthy performance.

The Jones Team is tied for third winning 14 points against Team Decker. Jones was led by Doc Jones with a scratch series of 527. He also has the distinction of having the lowest team scratch score as he was the only bowler present. Amy Lewis was the only member of Team Decker to bowl over average (+3) in spite of the fact she had some difficulty in determining which lane to use.

Team Baker is tied for third also winning 14 points against Team Cowell. This result is somewhat surprising since Baker only averaged 482 scratch pins against the 559 by Cowell (of course the 77 pin handicap differential was the deciding factor.) Chad Baker led his team and his teammate Bob Barnes started his 88th year in the league. Rick Tinucci bettered his average (by a measley 1 pin) and Doug Lorenz performed near average. The Cowell team welcomed two new bowlers. Beth Russell (who is a returning bowler) started her season with a 374 scratch average and Quinn Rogers began with a 321 total. David Cowell had his normal outstanding series (+3) and Ralph Zuke was near average.

It was a great start to the new season.

Respectfully submitted,
Carl Lane
