About Colonel John Hayden

I am a 31-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department-City of St. Louis. During my career with the Police Department I have been promoted thr
ough the ranks to Chief of Police. Prior to my promotion to Chief, I served in the North Patrol Division; first as the Commander of District Five and later as the Commander of the North Patrol Division.

Crime reduction has been my major focus while in the North Patrol Division; and several neighborhoods have experienced significant crime reduction under my administration. Prior to 2013, I served as Commander of the Internal Affairs Division. In that capacity, I oversaw or reviewed more than 1200 investigations of employee misconduct. I have created and modified Department policy, as it relates to the administrative process and subsequent discipline for employee misconduct. Prior to my assignment in Internal Affairs, I was the Executive Aide to the Chief of Police for 5 years. I possess a vast amount of investigative experience, as I have served as a Detective and the Commander of the Central Patrol Detective Bureau. During my 5-year assignment at the Police Academy, as Instructor and Training Coordinator, I taught the Ethics block of instruction to recruits and later prepared an Ethics training course, which I taught department-wide to veteran officers. I am passionate about my work and believe that concern, dedication and commitment to excellence have been the keys to my success.
