Bob Garagiola called his first meeting as President to order at 12:00 Noon. Julie Neimann took the podium to lead us in her special rendition of “When the Bill’s go Marching In”. I am sure you can guess the tune. For the first time in a long time, we had accompaniment thanks to Doug Russell. Singing Karaoke made for a lot of fun. Mike Reagan provided a thoughtful invocation for our speaker.
Announcements:
  • Bob provided an update on this year’s Rotary International them of “Rotary Connects the World”
  • Prospective Member meetings will be held the 1st Thursday of each month. The next one will be August 1st at 11 am in the Eads room. Please reach out to anyone you think might benefit from being a part of Rotary.
  • New Member Jennifer Krassinger was introduced and welcomed to Club 11. Jennifer is the Founder and Executive Director of GIFT (Giving is a Family Tradition). Please make sure to introduce yourself at an upcoming meeting.
Before introducing our guests and visiting Rotarians, Sergeant-at-Arms Dan Conway told a story about his childhood and being nicknamed “motor-mouth” You’ll have to ask him for the explanation as I have known Dan as a Club 11 member for many years, but never considered him a motor-mouth.
Saint Louis University alum and super Biliken fan, Ken Schuman introduced our program Fred Pestello. Fred became the 33rd president and CEO of Saint Louis University in 2014 and is the first permanent lay president of the University since its founding in 1818. Fred provided an overview of the state of the university and the student body. Enrollment for the 2019/2020 school year is at a record high. The university is focusing on degree programs which are based on student interest. As such, STEM programs lead all degree programs at the university. The university continues to improve the campus facilities, especially on the medical campus on south grand.
After a few thoughtful questions from the audience, Bob rang the bell to close the meeting at 1:00 pm
This was another great program on one of St. Louis' premiere institutions.

Fox Run Country Club Golf Outing

Blake Critzas

Hello all and thank you for joining us out at Fox Run Country Club. First of all I’d like to thank Matt Weiss for handling all the details setting up this outing, (we missed you man!!) also a big thanks to John Guilfoy working his magic with the members hosting this outing. We all thought it was going to be the hottest day of the year but, only after five holes the clouds rolled in, dropped the temp and it turned out to be a very pleasant afternoon. The course was in excellent shape and is such a challenging track for all levels! Did you see some of the Tee boxes, I understood you could play that course up to 8,400 yards!
I do believe everyone had an excellent time and look forward to an opportunity to once again play Fox Run, yes!

Our Club 11 member, Michele Goad, serves on the Missouri RYLA Board. This state-wide board is made up of District Leaders from our three Missouri Rotary Districts: 6040, 6060, and 6080. Our club is in District 6060. www.missouriryla.com

Michele just returned from Missouri RYLA Camp Session 2. She served as a counselor. You make us proud Michele! Thanks for representing our club on this state-wide Rotary board.

The Missouri RYLA Academy is a 4-day, 3-night training program for high school sophomores and juniors who exhibit a desire for community service. Developed by some of Missouri's top professional educators, the curriculum is designed to identify and enhance the qualities of Servant Leadership for each participant, train them on how to successfully implement a service project, and inspire them to live a lifetime of "Service Above Self." In addition, participants are exposed to all the programs and values Rotary has to offer. Established in 1992, Missouri RYLA Academy has trained and inspired more than 2000 students state wide. It is currently a model for RYLA Academies worldwide.

Mark Maloney 2019-20 RI Pres

Mark Maloney, RI President 2019 - 2020

Speaking about his theme:

Rotary Connects the World:

"Rotary is all about connection. When you join a club, you connect with the business leaders in your community. Rotary connects you and clubs and districts for service around the world. The whole basis of The Rotary Foundation is to connect Rotary clubs in one part of the world with Rotary clubs in another part of the world, typically Rotary clubs from a developed country with Rotary clubs in a developing country, to undertake a humanitarian service project.
Rotary connects the world on a less formal basis internationally. Rotary International conventions and other international meetings are wonderful events. You see people there year after year that you don’t see at any other time of the year, and you connect with them through friendship. You’ve seen the promo: “Rotary, the original social network.” That’s true."

President's Corner

Following the encouragement of our international president Mark Maloney that Rotary connects the world, what better way to begin Mark's call to action for the 2019-2020 Rotary year than by hosting the Inter-City meeting on July 11. We can connect the world if we begin by connecting locally. We had Rotarians from eight area clubs. This is the start.....thanks to …
