The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do

  1. Is it the truth?
  2. Is it fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

  1. “New year — a new chapter, new verse, or just the same old story? Ultimately, we write it. The choice is ours.” — Alex Morritt

Let’s try to make 2021 a new chapter, a new verse and not just the same old story. Look to become more involved in our Club in this year. If you are looking for a committee to join or an activity to be involved with, just ask one of the Board Members. As we come out of the COVID – 19 struggle there will a pent-up demand to serve others. Write you own chapter, take the lead.

As we have consistently done with our Club and our Meetings, we will continue to follow the guidelines set by the City of St. Louis and the Missouri Athletic Club (Our meeting site) while having a safe environment.

As we come out of the COVID 19 this year, let’s try to work adding to our membership. If everyone just asks one close friend or business associate, we will be able to grow in 2021.

Pass on information about our club and about Rotary to your friends, send the Pepperbox to them, Like and Share on Social Media. We really do have a great club, let’s not be afraid to tell the WORLD.

David Cowell                      17 years            January 15th

Walter Knoll                       60 years            January 16th

We started off our program in 2021 with our annual Business Meeting. One of the items discussed were the results of the election of officers for the 2021-22 Rotary Year.

Past President Bob Garagiola formed a committee to decide on the candidates that would run for office. The ballots were sent out with return envelopes to be received back with our deadline of January 7th. Prior to the meeting the election teller group met to tally the ballots. Since Bob G was not able to attend in person, Mike Regan stepped up as the leader. His group included Ken Schuman, Phil Roush, Andrew Darling and Bob Zangas. As the result were tabulated, we realized there was a tie for the 2nd Vice President position. It will be decided on a special email run off to be announce at next Thursday’s meeting. Mike Regan then announced the winners as part of our Thursday Meeting.

They are also outlined elsewhere in this Pepperbox but here are the results.

President            Jack Windish             President Elect Richard Warriner

Vice Presidents    Rebecca Richie         Run of election between      Jeromy Fritz and Bill Piper

Sergeant at Arms         Michele Goad

New Directors elected   Matt Weiss, Pete Milne, Tom Keeline

Congratulations to the winners of the elections. Those that were not elected are winners also as there are many opportunities to take leadership roles in our Club. Thank You to everyone that ran for one of the offices.

Also, during the Business Meeting, we had informative discussions on Fundraising (Terry Werner), Golf and Bowling (Matt Weiss), Program Committee (Dr. Beth Russell), The Endowment Fund (Ken Schuman), Operating Account and Welfare Account (Kent Steinbrueck), Pepperbox and New Generations (Rose Cooper), Strategic Planning Report (Rick Tinucci), Civilians and Rotary Year 2021-22 (Jack Windish)

Again, a great job by all the participants to give OUR CLUB an update of the various aspects of CLUB 11.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday January 14th. This week is our Annual Program from Juli Niemann. As usual Juli will give us her economic forecast.  During these turbulent times, her talk should be interesting. As usual Juli will bring her sense of humor to her talk. As usual you will be able to attend the meeting live at the Downtown Missouri Athletic Club or via Zoom. Be sure to get your reservation into Joan by Noon on Wednesday.

Each week I will highlight something about Rotary that all Rotarians should know or be aware of.

ROTARY FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE
An interesting Rotary program of fellowship is the Rotary Friendship Exchange. This activity, originally recommended by the New Horizons Committee in 1981, is intended to encourage Rotarians and spouses to visit with Rotarian families in other parts of the world. It may be conducted on a club-to-club or district-to-district basis.
The idea is for several Rotarian couples to travel to another country on the Rotary Friendship Exchange. Later the hospitality is reversed when the visit is exchanged. After a successful pilot experiment, the Rotary Friendship Exchange has become a permanent program of Rotary.
The Rotary Friendship Exchange is frequently compared to the Group Study Exchange program of The Rotary Foundation, except that it involves Rotarian couples who personally pay for all expenses of their inter-country experience. Doors of friendship are opened in a way which could not be duplicated except in Rotary.
Rotarians seeking an unusual vacation and fellowship experience should learn more about the Rotary Friendship Exchange. Some unusual Rotary adventures are awaiting you! (33)

If you missed last week’s meeting or any meeting you can watch the recording of the zoom presentation by clicking on the link in the Pepperbox.

We are continuing to work to make the zoom presentations better every week. Please let Joan know if you have and suggestions and she will pass them on to the MAC who is handling the production of the video.

ZOOM BROADCAST WILL CONTINUE FOR AT LEAST UNTIL THE END OF February 2021 FOR THOSE THAT CANNOT MAKE THE MEETINGS IN PERSON.
