MAKES ME PROUD TO BE A ROTARIAN IN THE ROTARY CLUB OF ST. LOUIS

The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do

  1. Is it the truth?

  2. Is it fair to all concerned?

  3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Ageless Quotes – Age 47 to 51 (continued from last week)

I’ve learned that children and grandparents
are natural allies.  Age 47

I’ve learned that no matter what happens, or
how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will
be better tomorrow. Age 49

I’ve learned that singing “Amazing Grace” can
lift my spirits for hours. Age 50

I’ve learned that motel mattresses are better
on the side away from the phone.  Age 51

I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a
man by the way he handles these three things: a rainy
day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.  Age 52

MORE TO FOLLOW NEXT WEEK

Please continue to work at staying healthy and follow the Covid-19 guidelines. We have maintained and will continue to maintain the guidelines set down by the Missouri Athletic Club, which is following the guidelines set down by the City of St. Louis.

Each week I will highlight something about Rotary that all Rotarians should know or be aware of.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR FELLOWSHIP
Most Rotarians are successful professional and business executives because they hear opportunities knock and take advantage of them. Once a week the opportunity for Rotary fellowship occurs at each club meeting, but not all members hear it knocking.
The weekly club meeting is a special privilege of Rotary membership. It provides the occasion to visit with fellow members, to meet visitors you have not known before, and to share your personal friendship with other members.
Rotary clubs which have a reputation of being “friendly clubs” usually follow a few simple steps:
First, members are encouraged to sit in a different seat or at a different table each week.
Second, Rotarians are urged to sit with a member they may not know as well as their long-time personal friends.
Third, members invite new members or visitors to join their table just by saying: “Come join us, we have an empty chair at this table.”
Fourth, members share the conversation around the table rather than merely eating in silence or talking privately to the person next to them.
Fifth, Rotarians make a special point of trying to get acquainted with all members of the club by seeking out those they may not know.

When Rotarians follow these five easy steps, an entirely new opportunity for fellowship knocks each week. Soon Rotarians realize that warm and personal friendship is the cornerstone of every great Rotary club. (21)

Last Thursday Patrick Murphy, a longtime veteran of KETC Channel 9, was our speaker. Patrick recently wrote a book, Candy Men: The Story of St. Louis’ own Switzer Licorice. Fascinating and informative talk about the origins and the revival of the Licorice over the years. Using many picture slides to give his presentation, you felt you started to know these people.

This week’s program will be from David Smale. David recently finished a book “The Keys to the Kingdom: An Illustrated Timeline of the Kansas City Chiefs.” The book is a reflection of David’s personal journey that started in the summer of 1963. Just before David turned 5, the Dallas Texans arrived in Kansas City to become the Chiefs. He remembers his Dad being excited that KC had professional football, so he was excited too. It’s written for fans throughout the Chiefs Kingdom, but mostly it’s written for people like him, people who have loved the Chiefs for almost 60 years. You’ll enjoy reliving the journey.
Should be an interesting and fun program.

If you missed last week’s meeting or any meeting you can watch the recording of the zoom presentation by clicking on the link in the Pepperbox.

We are continuing to work to make the zoom presentations better every week. Please let Joan know if you have and suggestions and she will pass them on to the MAC who is handling the production of the video.
ZOOM BROADCAST WILL CONTINUE FOR AT LEAST UNTIL THE END OF DECEMBER 2020 FOR THOSE THAT CANNOT MAKE THE MEETINGS IN PERSON.

Remember to complete the new pre-meeting online registration starting with this meeting that Joan will send out. This pertains to both those attending live and virtually. Although this is not mandatory (yet) please respond to the email to give us a good idea of attendance. It worked very well last week.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO WORK AT BEING HEALTHY DURING THESE TRYING TIMES
