Part 1 Week 27 Alleygations - Captain Matthew Maddox

Alleygations, Week 27 – Part 1

Captain Matthew Maddox

Rotary Bowling Alleygations
Week 27 of 31 – The Oldest Still-Operating Bowling League West of the Mississippi
Olivette Lanes • March 23, 2026 • “Where Strikes Meet Shenanigans Since Before Most of You Were Born”

Folks, if you thought the lanes were only for knocking down pins, last night proved the real pins were… personal phones and wandering captains. Welcome to the juiciest edition of Alleygations yet!

The Great Phone Heist of Lanes 23-24
Team Cooper’s very own Doc Jones was allegedly caught red-handed (or red-thumbed) trying to swipe Lily Michaels’ phone mid-frame. Chaos ensued! A full search party was immediately invoked, with Team Maddox Captain Matthew heroically leading the charge — flashlight in one hand, bowling ball in the other. Was it a brilliant psychological warfare tactic? Absolutely. Did it work in Game 1? You bet — Maddox snatched the early lead while Cooper was busy patting down couches and checking under the ball returns.

But here’s the comeback kids part: Team Maddox refused to stay distracted. They roared back in Game 2 (and finished the series strong), posting a massive 906 handicap game and a league-high 2,598 handicap series for the night. Final verdict: Maddox 14 points, Cooper 8. Phone recovered, pride… mostly intact.

Meanwhile, Team Cooper Captain Rose had to be physically corralled back to the lanes like a wayward pinsetter after one too many “I’ll be right back” detours. Despite the eventful evening, Cooper still finished their series well after every other match had wrapped — proving once again that Rotary bowlers don’t quit until the last gutter ball is thrown (and the snack bar is closed).

Cleverness Corner: Bowlers Who Defied Gravity (and Their Averages)

Matt Maddox dropped a 199 game — that’s 76 pins over his 123 average! The man wasn’t bowling; he was conducting a symphony of strikes.

Doug Lorenz went 100 pins over in series (499 – 399) and another 47 over in a single game. Someone check if he swapped balls with a ringer.

Maddie Zuke (Baker) and Lily Michaels (Cooper) kept the ladies’ side spicy with 30-over and 40-over series heroics.

Ralph Decker (Weiss) and Bob Zangas (Lane) continued their season-long reign of terror on the scratch boards.

Team Standings After Week 27 (because someone has to keep score while the drama unfolds)

1 WEISS – Still the kings of the hill

2 LANE

3 BAKER

4 SOIFER

5 COOPER

6 MADDOX (climbing like a well-oiled ball return)

7 WERNER

8 COWELL

Last week’s winners: WEISS 16 pts, MADDOX 14 pts, COWELL 12 pts, WERNER 12 pts. Special shout-out to Team Maddox for that 2598 handicap series — highest of the night and the kind of number that makes other captains whisper “how?!”

Quarterly Captain Watch
The other Captain Matthew (Weiss) is still leading the Q4 race like it’s his personal victory lap — and with Team Weiss already locking down Q1 and Q2, the man is playing 3D chess while the rest of us are just trying not to leave splits. But hey — Team Maddox stole Q3 like it was Lily’s phone, so we’re still very much in the conversation. Two Matthews, one league, zero chill.

Next week (Week 28, 3/30): Lane assignments are out — Maddox moves to 2-7. Bring your A-game, your spare phone, and maybe a leash for any captains who wander.

Until then, keep your balls clean, your phones closer, and your search parties ready.

Strike on, Rotary legends.
