What a night at Olivette Lanes!

Week 17 delivered everything Rotary bowling promises: big scores, friendly trash talk, and just enough controversy to keep it interesting.

The marquee matchup was clearly the Battle of the Matthews, as Team Maddox squared off against Team Weiss on lanes 21–22. What looked like a close showdown on paper turned into a statement night, with Team Maddox absolutely rolling to a 20–2 victory, scooping up 20 points and maybe a little bragging rights for the rest of the season. Somewhere between frame two and frame three, momentum shifted — and it never came back for Team Weiss.

Speaking of momentum… Chris Wilson may want to file an official grievance. According to Chris, Donny Lorenz allegedly called him “fat” mid-match, which Chris insists negatively impacted both his focus and the lane oil pattern. League officials are still reviewing the tape, but witnesses confirm there was laughter, friendly chirping, and zero hard feelings — just classic Rotary bowling banter at its finest.

On the lanes, the scoring was 🔥:

Joey Papa was lights out with a 213 scratch game and a 590 series, reminding everyone why you don’t give him room to get hot.

Don Lorenz followed closely with a 208 game and a 590 series, proving trash talk and talent can, in fact, coexist.

David Cowell quietly posted a 201, while Bill Piper and Chris Wilson kept things competitive with strong all-around nights.

For the women:

Rose Cooper led the way with a 174 game and a 411 series.

Lauren Rosenkranz wasn’t far behind, rolling a 170 and a 424 series.

Ali Griebenow turned heads with a 165, showing serious improvement week over week.

Team-wise, Team Maddox also claimed the top handicap series of the week with a 2617, while Team Lane flexed with the highest scratch game (696). Plenty of strikes, plenty of spares, and even more high-fives.

Most importantly, the night was a perfect reminder of why Rotary bowling is such a blast — competitive but welcoming, personal but friendly, and always full of stories you’ll still be laughing about long after the pins are reset.

If you’re not bowling yet… you’re missing out. 🎳

Best,

Matthew
