Week 4 Alleygations ~ September 29, 2025 107th Season

ALLEGATIONS—September 29, 2025 Week 4

By the fourth week most bowlers have returned to form as was evidenced by the fact 20 of 30 rolled over a 600 handicapped series. However, notably absent from this select group were some “normally” high rollers to include: Terry Werner, Matt Weiss, Don Klackner, and the Lorenz brothers. On the positive side, Ralph Decker led the total with a 682 series (which included a 267 scratch game), followed by the other (Ralph) Zuke with 677 (who also won the 50/50), Quinn Rogers with 675, Joan Hecker with 674 (including her all time high game of 155). Drew and Dee Baebler had a spirited spousal competition with Drew winning by 1 pin with a 666 (he had some outside help) series.

100 Season Shirts modeled by David, Ken, Rick and Ralph

While most male bowlers covered their upper torso with mundane shirts, Team Cowell arrived dressed in sartorical splender all sporting the 2019 100th anniversary shirt. To their credit, each could still button the bottom button but the fabric looked somewhat strained in a few of the guys. This attire may have contributed to earning 20 points for the night. They also recorded a season high team score for scratch game, scratch series, and handicap series.

On lanes 23 and 24 Teams Lane and Maddox battled it out for first place. The end result was kind of like kissing your sister—they are now tied with 54 points. Team Maddox was led by Quinn Rogers who has shown steady improvement and Dan Conway with a 631 series. With another spousal competition this one was won by the distaff side as Jeannine rolled a 634. Team Lane scored 16 points with Team Maddox winning 6.

On lanes 21 and 22 Team Cowell battled Team Cooper with Cowell totally dominating winning 20 points. As previously mentioned Team Cowell had a great night and would have steamrolled any team as all four members bested their average. Rose Cooper and Tom Carroll gave a valiant effort but to little avail. Team Cowell is now in fourth place with Team Cooper bringing up the rear.

On lanes 19 and 20 Team Weiss faced Team Baker with Weiss winning 6 points. While Weiss and Baker are currently in sixth and seventh place in the standings, both teams are within one good week of potentially gaining the top spot. Team Weiss started off slow (beer had not yet kicked in) with the top score in game 1 being 118. Jack Windish and David Stuart picked up the pace to prevail over strong showings by Chad Baker, Jon Soifer, and Ralph Zuke.

On lanes 17 and 18 a short handed Werner team managed to win 8 points with two bowlers against team Soifer. Joan Hecker led the effort with a 674 series. This match was wrapped up by 7:45 but the fast pace was not achieved by a preponderance of strikes. Interestingly, Captain Soifer abandoned his team as he rolled a 606 series for team Baker.

Ralph Decker asks each bowler to start preparing to wear a Halloween costume for the week of October 27. In some cases, a mask will not be required but corresponding horrific clothing to complete the ensemble will magnify the effect.

Strikes and Spares,

Carl Lane
