Captain Chad Baker - Week 29 Alleygations - April 14, 2025 - 106th Season

Good morning, afternoon, evening Rotary Bowlers!
April 14th was a lively night on the lanes, as teams vied for the top four spots to compete in the final round, and gearing up for the battle against Kansas City.
Honestly, I don’t have a lot of interesting stories, so I’ll just lay out what I know.
At the very beginning of the night, someone ran up to me and told me I had to include the fact that Bob “Butterfingers” Zangas on Team Cowell either dropped his ball or threw it behind him on his approach to the second frame of Game 1. Depending on who was asked, the answers varied. Team Cowell ended the night with a loss of 20-2 to Team Westreich were knocked down to 5th place, as Westreich holds the #2 spot. One notable outcome of Team Westreich’s night was that Chris Wilson ended the night with a 712 handicap score, and Captain Wade had the 3rd highest with a 651.
Similarly, Team Driver nearly dominated their match with Team Lane, taking 20 points. Ken “Shoe” Schuman ended the night with the second highest handicap game for the men at 693. Don’t worry, Team Lane, you’re still in the top 4.
The Decker-Jones matchup on Lanes 21-22 seemed relatively mellow. The end scores were 15-7. I noticed that Allie G was absent from Team Jones and Decker was short a bowler (or two?), while Rachel and Kayla held the 2nd and 3rd highest handicap scores for the ladies with 639 and 600, respectively. Interesting that Captain Jones’ was third by breaking even. Team Jones holds on at the #3 spot for next week’s finals.
On the far two lanes, Team Baker finally had a full team without subs, and barely squeaked by Team Werner, losing 16-6. Notables from this matchup were Katie LaMarsh beating her all-time high 152 from last year with a 163 in game 2. It was Katie who saved Team Baker from a shutout, contributing to our win in Game 2 and by besting her opponent. Joey Papa on Team Werner ended the night with a turkey in the final frame of his 3-game matchup. Vic DiFate had a remarkable evening, besting Team Baker’s captain, and ending with a 641 handicap total. He was well over his average in all three games. I really cannot complain for losing to Vic, he was certainly on fire. Team Baker welcomed back two players off the bench for various injuries, Matt and Doug.
It’s been a swell season, playing alongside everyone.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of the bowlers who have subbed for Team Baker: Wade, Cowbells, Ralph (Decker), Mike, Gary “Doc” Jones, Jon S., and Drew B.
Tuesday we travel to Columbia to get our named etched on that trophy one more time and break the tie.
Strikes, spares, and wobbly pins that should have fallen down but somehow didn’t,
Captain Chad
