Captain David "Cowbells" Cowell ~ 106th Season, Week 14 Alleygations | December 9, 2024
ALLEYGATIONS‐ 12/09/2024
Team Cowell was on Lanes 19‐20 matched up with Team Decker. This is a repeated line from the last time I did these
alleygations on October 14th, 8 weeks ago, 8 teams. Things tend to repeat themselves. This time the tables were turned
and Team Cowell bested Team Decker 16‐6. Lily Michaels led the way for Team Decker getting her match and with a
little help from sub/Captain Carl Lane helped overcome a Personal Best 171 scratch game from David Safarian to
capture Game 3 and salvage 6 points.
Ralph Zuke in another win for Team Cowell took home $62 in the 50/50 drawing.
Next door on 17‐18 Team Driver was up for the matchup with Team Lane. Captain Robert Driver was not in attendance.
Possibly still celebrating an anniversary? There seemed to be discontent between Mike Regan of the Drivers and Jack
Windish of the Lanes. They had to put Ken Schuman and Bob Garagiola between them. When I asked what was going
on, that they were two of the nicest guys I know. Bob replied, “At least one is.” Kent Steinbrueck closed out Game 3 as
an anchorman should to salvage one game and keep a valuable 4 points from the Drivers who now need to take a 20‐2
decision next week to capture the 2nd Quarter Crown.
There were fireworks on 21‐22 with Team Werner matched up with Team Weistreich. Joey Papa and Don “The Legend”
Lorenz were making noise in Game 2, in different ways.
Don Lorenz, trying to add to his Legend moniker, started off with 7 strikes in a row! The 8th stopped his run, but he still
ended with an excellent 240 scratch game and took the top spot for the season with a 625 scratch series.
Joey Papa was making noise in a different manner. In the 10th frame of Game 2 his thumb stuck in the ball causing him
to loft the ball above his head landing down the lane only a few feet from the foul line. I imagine the delivery of a slow
pitch softball. I would like to report that the ball crept slowly down the lane for a strike, but this was not the case. It
made it to the gutter and slowly made its way to the end of the alley but did not return. While assistance in ball retrieval
was in progress, Team Werner decided modifications were required. Rather than having Grandpa Gary “Doc” Jones
carve out the thumb hole they decided it was the thumb that needed work. With a donated Busch Light most commonly
used as internal lubrication they proceeded to douse the thumb with beer. I am not sure if they allowed him to dry it off
but was told the ball slid from the thumb like _________________ . Please fill in the blank – accepting ideas to
complete this short story. I would like to report that this resulted in a strike/spare, but this was also not the case.
Team Werner laughed their way to a 20‐2 decision over Team Weistreich. Captain Wade Weistreich reported that Mike
Coleman picked up his 1st match win of the not so young season netting the lone 2 points for his team. Mike was not
there. Tough love from the Captain.
Finally, down by the doors on 23‐24 it was Team Baker taking on the front runner Team Jones. Team Jones sitting in 1st
Place. This is also a repeat from October 14th. Team Baker lost Game 1 badly and tried to blame Rose Cooper from Team
Decker saying she was supposed to have distracted Gary “Doc” Jones by messing up his hair. I am sorry Captain Chad
Baker, you have to take matters in your own two hands. Team Baker had a strong final two games behind a stellar night
from Team Baker MVP Matthew Maddox handing Team Jones their 1st loss of the season 13‐9? Is that possible? What
could have been! Team Baker could have made it 17‐5 with some magic fingers from Chad, and further assisted the
Drivers in their quest to knock Team Jones from their perch atop the standings.
Thank you to Marina Larson for coming out to visit us at Olivette Lanes. She will be joining us for the 2nd half of the
season and bowling on Team Baker‐ she may be a participant in Rose’ 2nd half hijinks. They were in discussions
throughout the evening.
Next week, 12/16, is our last week of the 1st half and ugly sweater night. No bowling on 12/23 and 12/30.
We will be saying goodbye to some of you until we meet again at the Bowling Banquet on April 28th. Not to be missed!
The 2nd half starts back up on 01/06/2025 when we welcome some new and old faces to Olivette Lanes.
