Marc Schreiber | St. Louis Sports Commission
Marc Schreiber became the President of the St. Louis Sports Commission on January 1, 2023, succeeding his mentor, Frank Viverito. Having started at the Sports Commission in 1998, Marc now leads the privately-funded nonprofit Sports Commission whose mission is to make St. Louis a better place to live, visit, work and play through sports. Attracting, creating and producing major sporting events for the St. Louis region, the organization uses the power of sports to enhance the area’s quality of life and to generate economic and social benefit for the community.
Prior to becoming President, Marc was the Sports Commission’s Vice President of Marketing & Development, a role he served in since 2004. In the position, Marc oversaw the organization’s revenue generation, marketing, communications, legislative affairs and the Sports Commission’s affiliated St. Louis Sports Foundation. Additionally, Marc served as Executive Producer of the Musial Awards and was at the forefront of creating and building the annual event, which celebrates extraordinary sportsmanship. Under his leadership, the Musial Awards have grown into a nationally acclaimed show that airs throughout the country on CBS. Marc continues to oversee the event’s production and strategic direction.
As Vice President, Marc cultivated the organization’s successful partnership and membership program, led the effort to pass and reauthorize the Missouri Amateur Sports Tax Credit Program, and spearheaded the organization’s Olympic Legacy Project celebrating St. Louis’ role in the Olympic movement. He has also contributed to the Sports Commission’s many successful events. Among them, he served on the local organizing committee for the 2005 NCAA Men’s Final Four and 2001 and 2009 NCAA Women’s Final Four, chaired the local task force for the global Olympic Torch Relay and Olympic Centennial Celebration in 2004, and oversaw the Century of St. Louis Sports Celebration in 1999.
In Marc’s tenure with the Sports Commission, the organization has been recognized three times as the national “Sports Commission of the Year” (2002, 2005 and 2013). In 2017, Marc received the National Association of Sports Commissions’ High Five Award recognizing his leadership in the sports tourism industry connected to legislative efforts and the development of the Musial Awards.
Marc graduated from Northwestern University with a bachelor’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism. At Northwestern, he served as the sports director at WNUR – the student-run radio station – and had the thrill of calling Wildcats football, basketball, baseball and softball games, including play-by-play for the 1997 Citrus Bowl. Marc’s pursuit of a career in sports broadcasting continued as a Production Assistant and Reporter for the Chicago Tribune Preps Plus Sportshow.
A native St. Louisan, Marc first connected with the Sports Commission as a volunteer for the 1994 U.S. Olympic Festival. He interned for the organization in 1995 and 1998. That second stint led to a full-time job as the Sports Commission’s Communications Manager. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Marc and his wife Erin are proud parents of twin daughters.
