Captain Carl Lane ~ 106th Season, Week 10 Alleygations | November 11, 2024
106th Season – Week 10 Alleygations | Carl Lane ~ November 11, 2024
Since Team Captains are given wide discretion in writing Allegations, I will first address this special day of November 11 — known as Veteran’s Day. The date signifies the day an armistice was reached ending “the Great War”, World War One. The US entered this war after it had been raging in Europe for three years resulting in the death of millions of soldiers. We sent more than one million men overseas and 116,708 did not return home. Nearly 26 million Americans have served in the military since 1776 and today we have 18.3 million veterans. The Rotary Bowling League honors these soldiers.
Since 1918 many changes have occurred in the US. Women earned the right to vote and their presence has evolved into all aspects of society; including the Rotary Bowling League. The Jones team is an all-female team (well, with the exception of Doc Jones) and they have owned the number one spot; having won the first quarter and leading the second quarter entering this week.
This week proved to be a major challenge for the Jones team as they faced the Cowell team led by David Cowell. David rolled the high scratch game (228) and the high scratch series (604) and supported by “near average” teammates (Quinn, David, and Ralph) managed to win 10 points against the Jones team. However, the Jones team buttressed by Terry Werner ekked out 12 points. Terry proved his worth in the tenth frame of the first game. David Cowell had apparently clinched a victory by striking out and Terry needed a strike for the win. No problem; he proceeded to get two strikes and nine pins to win the first game by 14. Team Cowell won the total by 4 pins.
Team Baker earned 16 points by defeating Team Decker. This margin was enough to propel them into first place after Week 2. This match was characterized by below average scores with only Ralph Decker (638) and Matt Maddox (646) beating their average. However, Rick Tinucci managed to convert the 1-2-10 leaving open the question of how in the world did his first ball cause this mismash.
Team Lane vs Team Weistreich was a mano vs mano affair as the handicap differential was only one pin. Six bowlers rolled above their average in this hard fought contest but Team Lane won 14 points.
Team Driver bested Team Werner by winning 14 points. Matt Wiess had a phenomenal night as he rolled a 684 handicap score. This was nearly matched by Vic Difate’s 665.
Week 2 offered evenly matched teams with the full complement of 32 bowlers participating. To cap off his great bowling David Cowell also won the 50/50.
