MARCH MADNESS

While many equate the term March Madness to a well known basketball tournament, it also applies to the happenings at Olivette Lanes. The Zuke team won two of the four quarters. While a team can win all four quarters and win all the quarter winning cash that goes with it, there has to be FOUR teams bowling in the championship on Sweepstakes night. So Team Zuke and Team Michaels will comprise two of the championship contenders by virtue of their quarterly wins. The other two will be determined by whomever leads in total pins for the entire season. As of the end of March 25 the Wilson team leads with 65452, followed closely by the Weiss team with 65340, followed by team Werner with 65315, and team Lane with 65204. Thus, the total pin separation from first to fourth is 248 pins with three matches remaining. The two top teams will bowl in the roll off for the title. So you handicappers out there can take this data and start making your bets.

With all of this drama, reporting on the current week seems to be of secondary importance, but some notable accomplishments are worthy of mention. The big winner was Chris Wilson who won $50 from the drawing, but back to bowling.

Strong performances by Chris Wilson (641) and Wade Weistreich (652) propelled the Wilson Team to 12 points while the Werner Team managed 10 with Don Fuller (646) and Terry Werner (622) exhibiting their usual classical styles.

The Lane Team bowlers had an average night winning 12 points. However, Katie Lamarch showed flashes of brilliance as she scored 639 for the Weiss Team. Her teammate, Jack Windish, became increasingly better (142, 172,187) after the beverages kicked in. I’m sure had there been a fourth game he would have surpassed 200.

All of the participating (one absent) bowlers on the Baebler Team bettered their average as did three of the four Piper members. This made for a close match since the handicap difference was only 15, and Baebler took 15 points.

Zuke and Michaels Teams had some strong showings with Len Lehmkuhl returning after an absence since October with a resounding 233 and a scratch series of 611. But his teammate Bob Barnes bested him with a handicapped series of 655. The Zuke Team had great efforts by Chad Baker (611) and Doc Jones (646).

Next week Olivette will have a bowlers appreciation night with some goodies, so everyone make an effort to attend.

Disclaimer: Do not make bets based on the information presented in this missive. I may not fully understand how the fourth quarter winner will be determined. It is a little like our elections these days; the rules may change before the final count and regardless of the rules the final count may change.
