October 5, 2023 | Updates on the County ~ Dr. Sam Page, County Executive

Dr. Sam Page, County Executive - St. Louis Rotary 10-6-22

Dr. Sam Page is the St. Louis County Executive. He is a husband, father, doctor, and fierce believer that most people here share his pride at living and working in an inclusive community. Dr. Page believes in a customer-centered government that focuses on the equitable and effective delivery of services by county employees whose efforts are widely respected and fairly compensated.

His political career began on the Creve Coeur city council in 1999. He was subsequently elected to the Missouri House of Representatives where he served from 2003-2008 representing St. Louis County. While in the state legislature, Dr. Page fought for access to affordable, quality healthcare and stronger protections against identity theft.

Dr. Page was elected to the St. Louis County Council in 2014 and was reelected in 2016. As chairman of the Council, he spearheaded implementation of a County Prescription Drug Monitoring Program to fight the opioid epidemic. Because Missouri was then the only state in the country without a drug monitoring registry, the County’s program eventually grew to serve 85 percent of the state’s population and 94 percent of healthcare providers.

Prior to being elected County Executive, Dr. Page was a full-time practicing physician. He earned an undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC), while working at what is now the university’s Department of Environmental Health and Safety. He received his MD from the UMKC School of Medicine. He completed a Residency in anesthesiology at Northwestern University and a Fellowship in pain management at Washington University.

Dr. Page maintains his medical license and specialist credentials as a volunteer.

Dr. Page has served as the Cubmaster for a Cub Scout Pack and a Merit Badge Counselor for the Greater St. Louis Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is a past President of the Missouri Society of Anesthesiologists and the Missouri Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.

In 2022, Dr. Page received the national Outstanding Government Service for Local Government award from the American Medical Association for his leadership in insisting on using evidence-based approaches to vaccination, ventilation, and masking requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic.

His wife, Jennifer Page, is a practicing physician. The Pages have three sons and a dog. They formerly had backyard chickens.
