Bowling Alleygations Week 25
March 7, 2022 Carl Lane

“This game isn’t so hard, I’m just not very good at it.”
Richard Warriner
The above quote represented the sentiments of many of the bowlers who participated in tonight’s “action”. Now Richard did not do so badly, his handicapped total was 558; only 42 pins below his average or 14 pins per game. And he was in stellar company as Ralph Decker’s total was 567 and Leonard Lehmkuhl’s was 560. No one can say the latter two are not very good at it, but it does illustrate the fickleness of the game.
On the bright side Curt Linton led all bowlers with a handicapped 692, followed closely by the ever-improving Bill Piper (691). Vic DiFate (660), Don Fuller (673), Carl Lane (658), and Joan Hecker (648) also had good scores.
The Lane Team held on to first place with a 14-6 thrashing of the Maddox team (who nonetheless retained second place). All six bowlers exceeded their average in this contest and the win was usually determined in the tenth frame.
Team Decker won 17 points vs Team Barnes. The Barne’s total was achieved by each team having an absent bowler (1 point with the tie) and the aforementioned Ralph Decker lost to Pete Milne (2 points). Team Decker is now in third place and Team Barnes is solidly in last.
Team DiFate secured fourth place by taking 20 points from the Lehmkuhl team. While the Lehmkuhl team exhibited extraordinary consistency (game totals of 566, 566, and 556) they fell far short of DiFate which was led by Vic DiFate and Don Fuller. Terry Werner was in the running for a favorable mention after his first game of 195, but he faded fast (but total was only 1 pin below average).
If Dan Conway had been able to coerce one more pin into falling, then all five active bowlers in the Conway/Linton contest would have met or beaten their average. The Conway team took 12 points in a close contest where the total was determined by 13 pins. Curt Linton (692) and Don Klackner (626) waged a strong battle but were overcome by Joan Hecker (648), Chris Wilson (654) (who also won the 50/50 for the second time in three weeks), and Dan Conway with 599.
Respectfully Submitted,
Carl Lane
